Software Analyst Jordan Minor really just wants to use his fancy Northwestern University journalism degree to write about video games. He was previously the senior editor for Geek.com and a PCMag intern before that. He’s also written for Kotaku, The A.V. Club, and Paste Magazine.
In a world where pinball-inspired games are getting increasingly abstract (Creature in the Well, Yoku’s Island Express) Pinball Wizard is relatively straightforward. Each dungeon floor is a pretty traditional table, it’s just full of monsters you defeat by physically bouncing the adorable wizard into them. I would say Overland was inspired by Into the Breach, but the game has been in development so long that it’s definitely not the case. Still, both are turn-based roguelikes that emphasize desperate tactics in the face of random odds rather than grand, overarching strategy. As you travel across the small grids that make up the wasteland, you need to make tough decisions such as how to quietly look for precious gas, when to heal your dog, and whether you should just bail.

Here are the top 20 games that will make you give up free-to-play cash grabs for good. I really don’t want more hardware piling up, but I would like to try it out. The price seems kind of steep, but I’d like to see what the joysticks feel like. Good arcade joysticks are expensive, so depending on the quality, maybe this is a fair price. I would have rather had the two joysticks separate though. Include street fighter alpha 3, the dungeons and dragons beat em ups and the JoJo fighting game and this will be a day one purchase for me. I would had bought this if it was a collection on Switch and not an arcade stick.
This will no doubt become clear as the unit makes its way into the hands of players who then dig a little deeper under the hood, but for now, Koch clearly feels confident enough from a legal perspective to sell the unit. From a physical standpoint, then, the Capcom Home Arcade is a tricky one to assess. It nails the feel of a proper arcade control panel, but removed from the sturdiness of a cabinet, it can sometimes be a bit awkward to use. This is balanced out by the fact that the sticks and buttons perform admirably; the bulk is arguably worth it when you consider how well these controls operate. It’s this snapshot of the gaming history that Koch Media – under licence from Capcom – is hoping to capture with the quite frankly ludicrous Capcom Home Arcade system.
Weeks ago, I had put The Pathless in my mind as the placeholder and most likely recipient of the Apple Arcade Game of the Month honors for November 2020. The Pathless is excellent, as you’ll see in the full top 25 list on the next page, but it’s not the best new game on Apple Arcade this month. That distinction belongs instead to South of the Circle, a game that took me by such surprise that I now have to configure where it may end up on my personal top ten games of the year list. If you’re interested, check out this list of Arcade games released in North America, sorted by year. You can also browse Arcade releases in all regions using the alphabet strip near the top of this page. The newest Arcade content available on the site is listed on this page. You can search the game database alphabetically to find additional screenshots, guides and reviews, or feel free to check content for additional systems.
Would had love to have an official version of AVP but not going to be paying $200 for it. The Capcom Home Arcade is the most ridiculous micro-console we’ve seen so far, even trumping the insane glory of the Neo Geo Mini. It’s a monster of a device, and we’re already having headaches thinking about where we’re going to store it when it’s not in use. That wording would suggest that Harris has supplied a revised emulator, but given his closeness to the FB Alpha project, it remains to be seen exactly how much is his own work.
We guess this product falls roughly into the same bracket as the SNES Classic Edition and Mega Drive Mini; it’s a micro-console, but in name only – this thing is absolutely huge. Six chapters would have been enough to end the tale, though, leaving an open ending with full Adobe Photoshop CC of hope to it. The remaining two chapters with their forced villainy and plot twists are a bit too Hollywood to be credible.
He’s the reason everything you think you know about Street Sharks is a lie. Shinsekai is one of the most traditionally AAA Apple Arcade games. It’s a beautiful Metroidvania from Capcom about exploring and surviving in an essentially wordless undersea world. Everything is made to look like sculptures and trudging through the depths feels as weighty and as floaty as it should. Your air supply is both your health and your means to propel yourself. Use your melee weapon to club enemies or send out sonar pulses to spot new treasures.

The interface is designed to make the famously dense strategy genre more accessible to, say, tabletop players, and it looks clean as a result. At least, as clean as a post-apocalyptic interface can look. Apple Arcade offers a plethora of premium mobile games in one monthly subscription.

As the game largely plays out as memories, this hazy dream-like delivery fits perfectly. The actors deliver their lines so well that I actually paused my game to learn how it could sound so genuine.
